Consumers Beware

Well, the insurance companies are at it again. In their ongoing to quest to collect as many premiums as possible and pay out as few claims as possible, the carriers are sending adjusters to accident victims withing 24 hours of the injury causing event and getting them to sign liability releases for a few hundred dollars. Once a release is signed, the injured is barred from further recovery. Imagine, you are in a collision on a Monday. On Tuesday, you have no car to get to work and you need money for a down payment on a replacement vehicle. The adjuster rings your door bell and offers you $500.00 in exchange for a release. Sure, you are a little sore, but not that bad and the money would help. You sign the release and take the $500.00. Now, Friday rolls around and your pain is worse, you can't work and your doctor has told you that you need therapy and maybe even surgery before you can go back to work. Too bad! That $500.00 release that seemed like such a good idea and an easy fix to your cash problems on Tuesday will prevent you from recovering any money for your medical treatment, pain and wage loss. The moral of this story is do not sign a release the day after an accident or before you know the extent of your injuries.
